Community Based Conservation

Mabamba Swamp, a wetland of extreme importance and a designated RAMSAR site by the IUCN. Located close to the capital city, Mabamba Swamp is a testament to Ugandan’s commitment to conserve this biodiverse ecosystem. This protected area will have a viable future with the continued support of the communities who live in and around Mabamba.

Visitors to Uganda can experience the Mabamba ecosystem from different types of boats guided by local men and women. We spent the night nearby so we could go out in the evening and the early morning hours and we plan to visit again, it’s that fantastic.
